This I Believe Project
Essential Question: What do I believe, and why?
This I believe is essentially a personal essay written and then recorded based off of personal beliefs/morals along with a story that relates to you personally. The intention was meant to push you to think about what you truly believed in and what motivates that belief, and why. The class prepared by going through several brainstorming activities that would force us to consider our beliefs and make us reflect on why we believed that. I created a paper that surrounded how I was privileged and the effects (positive and negative) that it had on our world and community. After the writing part of the project we went to record ourselves reading our own essays, we will be sending them to be aired on KDUR radio to share with the general public of Durango.
The hardest part of this project was making my writing piece more personal than a political issue paper. It was hard to find a balance and write about how I was involved. It was also difficult to read my essay into a mic and be entirely happy with how my essay came out, how I worded things, and how my voice sounds recorded. As a writer I see growth in my ability to write from different angles and opinions. Next time I would have liked to think about my topic on a more personal level and how I am growing/learning from it. I think this would require more thought and would force me to think more deeply about the topic. My favorite part of this project was being able to learn and teach about something that I believe strongly in, it made the project more personal and intellectual. I am proudest of my prompting questions, the things that I ask the writer are thoughts that I have had and find interesting which made the project personal on a whole different level.
I believe that beliefs and personal morals make a person more interesting, being able to share with other people is the coolest part of personal beliefs because it gives you the opportunity to grow from other people. Participating in this conversation and project has influenced my beliefs by teaching me about other people's opinions/beliefs and how I am capable of growing from them. Sharing and defining my belief has changed my perspective by showing me how often I and other people encounter privilege. . It has made me more aware of myself and the effects that I can make on our world.
